Laureato in graphic design all’Università del Wisconsin Eau Claire, Greg Gossel (Baldwin, Wisconsin, 1982) elabora una pittura dichiaratamente ispirata alla Pop Art, in cui appaiono personaggi dei cartoon della golden age, loghi delle corporate petrolifere e ritratti di celebri uomini politici. Attraverso un linguaggio visivo semplice e immediato, Gossel affronta tematiche politiche e sociali che hanno caratterizzato la storia recente degli Stati Uniti, come i soprusi ai danni delle donne e delle minoranze. Non è un caso che tra le immagini ricorrenti nella pittura dell’artista compaiano figure di donne piangenti oppure icone emblematiche della politica progressista, come J. F. Kennedy e Martin Luther King.
